It seems that sites like Poal and Voat just become a huge garbage dump with random subs scattered throughout. Wouldn't it make more sense to have major-categories which are created by the admins and then sub-categories, then sub-sub-categories..., layered below those? USENET was structured that way which made it much easier to peruse to find points of interest. I would even say that all sub-categories would need to be applied for so that they are placed into the hierarchy in the correct order.
