I have a dark explaination. I've noticed stale pages in the past on poal and voat when a large group is present and then goes away. It's the reduction in numbers that cause it. Maybe making dark mode mandatory, and providing an even darker mode as an alternative may have caused a reduction in numbers.
Now new posts can't possibly outscore the old ones. If anything you guys should have added more modes.
