While the option is enabled to disable snowflakes, they are still present while viewing certain pages. So far I've found them to be active on these pages (adding more as I encounter them):

  • Any user's profile page
  • All the "View X" user pages (but not the "Edit user info"/preferences page)
  • While making this new text post and writing these words
  • The PIF (People I Follow) page
  • MOD (sub moderation) page (from top toolbar)
  • All private message/notification pages it seems

It’s intentional.

It’s like when you are in your cabin and need to get some wood or snow (to use as water) outside.

Merry Christmas!

I understand. Thanks, AOU.

A while ago, having hardware acceleration enabled in my browser had my super old GPU going nuts from the snow effect and the animated holiday poal logos, so I had disabled/blocked them. I've since upgraded my GPU and it isn't a problem anymore.

Seeing the snow suddenly on some pages reminded me I had it disabled and I thought it was a bug.

Merry Christmas to you as well!
