Good feature, I noticed and tried it earlier.

Pretty cool

I think the biggest problem with duplicates comes from when people are using different sources for the same story.

They could search for specific keywords or take a glance at /all/hot before posting.

This is the kind of implementation that moves your site from alt tech to regular tech. Keep up the good work

alt tech to regular tech.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here.

Reposts have the advantage of bumping the link to the front so that folks who missed the first link because it's so old get a better chance to see it.

Could the algorithm be extended so that instead of posting a duplicate link it just bumps the original post to the front page?

Alternatively you could have dup posts auto link to each other so we can see all the related comments

You can't bump a post, because it gets archived and the comments are closed after 2 months.

Duplicate posts have a "related" icon (double square) with a number underneath below their title. When you click it, it sends you to a list of all the duplicate posts, sorted from newest to oldest.

Please can use that to read previous comment threads.

I thought there was already a message generated when you tried to submit a link that has already been shared.

Yeah, but that way you can check before wasting your time filling the page and submitting it.
