Much appreciated. Being able to move up and up in the thread inline would also be nice, but low priority. (Life is good with this, that would be gravy if it is something easy.)

It's not about being easy, it's just that it's not the purpose of the PM box.
If you need to move up in inline threads, just click the "parent" button in them.

Agreed. It's a "it would be neat for me." Not sure if it would be useful for anyone else and not butthurt if it never happens.
