I have always preferred white text on black backgrounds, because it reduces power consumption on AMOLED displays and hurts the eyes far less.
Still, in reading comprehension timed tests, you would read faster with black text.
Also, if you ran a web site, it would wither and die and never be a top 200 web site, as all the top 200 are all black text atop white for body text.
Many of these top sites have a dark theme option since the late 2010s.
I always chose dark theme. I would rather read a bit slower but not burn my eyes.
I can keep my eyes on screen longer for dark themes too.
