That's a Throat legacy code design.
The link field was only hidden when switching to text post, so if its content was invalid for submitting a link post, it would also prevent the post form from getting validated.
Switching to text post will now disable that field so the form can pass the validation in text post mode.

And you also prevented users from submitting an invalid link by switching back and forth. Smart. Not gonna lie, it was the first thing I tried to do after learning you fixed the issue.
