The top 1% of anything, whether it be money or intellect, does not perform more work than the lower 99%. Society would still continue to operate because the top 1% aren't calling all the workers with what to do every morning - people will keep going to work as usual, your water & electricity will still flow. Now science & tech related jobs would see both a talent decrease and funding would dry up... but even then, lower level outfits will still continue to operate as usual.
