She was old when I first visited 15 or so years ago, looking to have my long hair cut short. After 6 years longhair, I didn't know how to have it cut short. She spent most of an hour helping me figure it out, cutting back slowly. I've had the same hair cut from her since. She wore a mask during the 'pandemic' phase, but I think it was just to keep the business open. Now she is very old, maybe a full foot shorter now compared to 15 years ago. Steps only in short shuffles but still works and gets around. Normally, she will tell me to tilt my head this and that way. This time I could tell it was no longer easy for her, as her method changed noticeably. She was cutting my hair as best as possible, for the last time. This wizened old crone, with leg warmers and no glasses gently but firmly grabbed my head and tilted it wordlessly each time and I yielded acccordingly to each motion. It was a perfect cut, and we looked each other in the eyes afterward. I'm gonna have to find a new barber next year. I wished her a Merry Christmas.
