The local crows are holding elections today, in their usual judicial spot, along a long line of 40 or so tall pines planted as a wind break.
About 20 crows held assembly this time, each perched atop a pine, forming distinct groups.
Caws were sounded at intervals, and crows would remain in place, fly to another group, or temporarily move off the court. This continued for nearly a half hour, until the tribe was reassembled and they dispersed, presumably to convene elsewhere for dinner.

The longducks around here (Canuck Geese) have also been holding meetings, probably to decide whether they're going to fly south or overwinter. There'd be a group of 30-40 of the fat bastards in the pond, all facing the front, where a line of roughly 10 of them on the pond shore are facing back to the flock of geese.
