The riding mower spun a bearing and threw a rod (in rather spectacular fashion). The crankcase blew out like my gut after dinner at grandma's. I think this is beyond a bit of JB Weld.

Catastrophic failure. Time to find another engine like it, salvage what you can from this one (head, cylinder, carb, gas tank...) and scrap the rest.
