But that would all be processed foods too. The overlap between non-processed French foods and American foods would be significant and cover many other food sections that aren't specific to any country. It is also important to note that the grocer is choosing these American foods to be stocked in their store and their familiarity with American foods will not be representative of what we actually stock in our stores. There's probably a good amount of big brand pressure to stock these items as well.
I honestly think you're jsut mad that americans have shit food. I personally lived in both europe and the US and you seriously cannot compare the shittiest french processed food to average american food, french processed for wins. I don't think you understand the basic quality of products in France.

Processed crap is still processed crap even if it is "better quality". My point, which you seem to have missed, is that Americans don't all eat the processed crap food. Many still cook and use fresh meats, vegetables, fruits and other ingredients that overlap with many other countries, including France. These country specific sections in grocery stores only focus on the name brand processed crap because they are well known items that trigger a sense of familiarity so there's no need to put fresh foods in the American (or whatever nation's) section. It's skewed by way of exclusion of the other non-nationality specific foods which are in other parts of the store.
We have local foods that aren't available out of their region, paw paw is a great example.

Same with any region. Can you buy fresh Hatch chili peppers or fresh cranberries in your local area?
