Some old system that used to align with the stars, either for power or communication. Something happened that disturbed the planet's axis, which disrupted the grid. Big old war no doubt

pretty decent source of evidence that there was once a full solar system wide civilization before "something" happened. Could be multiple somethings.

Eh, just passing on a narrative. Idk tbh. Something happened all across the solar system, and then repeatedly here on earth at least. The electric universe guys think it's some sort of solar micronova, which could be an explanation as well.
