You are right, the Germans should definately have let the Poles stay in Danzig. It is not like the Poles were actively trying to annex a city with a 95% German majority, after having gladly accepted vast swaths of German territory with a population of over 500 000 Germans and cut the Germany in half in the process. It is not like the Poles did nothing while Jews and Polish communists slaughtered Germans in the lead up to WWII. No, you are right. The Germans should have let them stay.
No offense to my Polish brothers, I do actually feel bad for your history. The WWI allies basically set you up to be invaded after WWI and they clearly cared enough about you to destroy Germany one more time, but not enough to free you from 45 years of brutal Soviet occupation. Though some of the blame is your own, you could have returned majority German territory back to Germany. You could have let Germany reconnect East Prussia with Germany proper. The Führer even offered to recognize the borders in exchange for a highway and a railway and you refused that. A smarter move would have been to return German majority areas and enough territory to connect the to parts. But you chose to throw in your lot with the Jews and look how they repaid you!
