Not enough cover, he could drape the rug over the railing and get on his belly and have just a couple inches down there to work with, from a distance it'd look like no one was there.

Was gonna say, he's doing well by not extending the muzzle past his concealment, but his position could be better. Prone would be lower and more stable and a sling would give him better support since he doesn't appear to have a rest. But everyone starts somewhere and the spirit being willing, with a little instruction from dad, he's off to a fine start.
