I think they touched on this in Dan Browns DaVinci Code, I think. Really neat theory though - and it would make sense, seeing how music was a HUGE influence throughout history, even oral traditions being passed via song and dance. To encode things in symbols that can be interpreted and have very little data loss (read: misinterpretation), is simply amazing.

We are way smarter than we think. Which reminds me:

There is no modern built building today that matches the construction and architecture. That entire building was chiseled by hand.

Beautiful. If you haven’t read Pillars of the Earth, I highly recommend it. If you love to read consider the recently released prequel, The Evening and the Morning. I went to the UK and saw the Yorkshire cathedral, it is quite amazing.
