Depends on the load. People freak out when they see 5 power strips plugged into one outlet. They just automatically assume the load is too high, but if the total load is under 15A it doesn't matter how many plugs. Same with wiring. If you have twenty wires running from a junction box it doesn't automatically mean it's dangerous. If they're all feeding a 50mA wired smoke alarm it's completely fine, for example. This one is a mess for other reasons, but having a lot of wires isn't automatically a dangerous condition.
