I’ve been away for several weeks getting situated. Lots of property cleanup. Internet access has been more of a challenge than I’d expected. I had no coverage at all with ATT. Verizon swore I’d have usable coverage before getting my credit run and signing up on contract. T-mobile has been the answer for working phone service and at least functioning data. Family out here have home internet I can use when I visit.

That photo is of my burn pit I just love looking at. It’s rural here. As black at night as the niggers I’ve been moving farther and farther away from for this last few years of my adult life. I’m a total city slicker who doesn’t even know how to fish but I have lake access I have to cut my way into and hopefully get a permit for a dock. I’m going to learn how to fish. My mental health, just being out here working outside everyday, has improved greatly.

Poal motivated me to do this. A Hurricane helped put things in motion.

I’ll be back to contributing content again once I finish getting things set up. Lots to do but several things fell into place for this to happens and I’m grateful. God bless you all.

We recently got starlink, can recommend if you're able

Ditto. It's pricey but able to sustain Zoom, repo clones/pushes, and family streaming. Fairly resilient to rains, at least better than prior sat providers. Biggest caveat is data rates. That varies geographically. Do your homework before buying hardware.

Out of curiosity, what are you doing for work? Did you find something out there? Did you buy this land?

Good luck and enjoy yourself!

"Permit?" It's a dock, not a building. Just build it.

Congratulations! I'm very glad to know you made out to there!

Enjoy getting out among the greenery. The entire process of felling dead trees, cutting them up and stacking the logs and branches is also mentally and physically invigorating. Enjoying the silence and/or sounds of nature is also excellent for mental health and focus. Expect to regularly find yourself sighing at the peacefulness of it all.

Seeing your firepit reminds me I really need to give mine a lot of attention, though it likely needs to be completely dismantled and rebuilt. Luckily I still have some ~60ft extremely dead trees to bring down, cut and stack, so I'll be busy enjoying that task through autumn if they don't get brought down naturally. I will need to work in the pit rebuild between takedowns.

Grats, dude! Welcome to the true America!

When it gets really hot that concrete's going to crumble on you. Hell I'd just dig a shallow hole and put some decorative rocks around it. But don't forget to give it some aeration channels or you're just going to have a big plum of smoke.

Thank you for the info. I’m new to all this. Jewtube has been helpful.

"Smokeless" burn barrel. Even with a pit you will want/need a barrel eventually.

Have some friends that have something similar they built on their property. Works well enough and keeps the smoke/ash/ember's down. You look like you are in a pretty damp area so you should be ok but always keep something around to put out a spot fire if you have to.

Hey man no problem, country living is beautiful. Also I think someone already mentioned in here about finding standing dead trees and getting them prepped for burning during winter time. Nothing better than having a fire going in your fireplace on those cold days. That being said make sure your fireplace is ready for it. make sure the chimney is safe not going to crumble. make sure the flu works. make sure your ash catch is clean/empty. Get yourself a nice ax, a good maul, chainsaw, a wedge for splitting the stronger. Don't make your wood pieces too big when you cut them, no more than a foot or 12 in high. it's going to be real pain in the ass to chop if you go higher. Also cut a chopping block which is a bigger piece of wood. doesn't have to be tall but flat and wide. Keep your blade Sharp get yourself a nice file.
