Maybe southern US makes sense. I thought it was odd the stove was off to the side. The buildings like this I've seen up north by me usually the stove is in the middle of the room so it radiates the heat better. In a warmer climate perhaps that isn't as important.
The stove placement is odd, but look where the pipe goes through the wall. Right in the back, middle of the wall. A converted building ? Can't have the preacher's backside getting scorched.

That makes sense. Notice the pews. They look like old fashioned theater chairs the way They hook together on the legs.
