It works if there is nobody around you, unlikely, for quite a while
If there are people around you they will try to steal your goats, you either shoot (if you can) or you die starving

WIlderness, nowhere to be found in all europe, maybe in some part of Russia
99% of population will need to defend their territory/food, the rest, need to survice the cold in syberia
Come on boy, you don't really understand the concept of wilderness, if the whole thing collapses, millions die, any place away from someone nor guarding it, is already wilderness.
It works fine if you're in a community of people doing the same. Someone tries to shoot one of you, the rest shoot him.
