I'm aware. Presumably the focal point, about 1/3 the way down from the top is where the knee goes?
Those would be better fit on my wrists, but still uncomfortably tight. I assume the rich back then were more wealthy than robust

No, these cover the leg from the knee down. The top edge would be lower than the pateller joint. The shield would protect the thigh.
