They just dump trash and waste outside the village, or right outside their homes. They don't have good hygiene practices. They don't wash their hands often. Near the cooking/kitchen hut was a small man-made swamp caused by generations of dumping food and water waste right outside the hut. It was a breeding ground for disease and pests. Eradicating pests wasn't high on their priority list either. Where we come from, a deal is a deal. We agree on the terms ahead of time and we shake on it and stick to it. Backing out of a deal is a faux pas. With them, the terms can change at anytime for any reason. You can argue with them, and maybe at times it will be worth your while to do so. But other times you have to consider you're out in the middle of nowhere with no 911 services, and it's a day or two on foot and by boat to the next village that has a radio or a phone you can call for help (good luck finding it on your own). No matter how much they like you, no matter how much you help them, no matter how much you get along, as a gringo, they pretty much see you as nothing more than a walking talking ATM machine, so you have to keep that in the back of your mind. Despite that, they are a hospitable and hardworking people, just not to our standards. For us, a workday is 8-12+ hours. For them, it's 6 hours max. Things are more laid back.

I really appreciate you taking the time to write that up.

I find it really interesting to hear and think about how different groups think and behave, especially given the site we are one.

I too would buy a book or somethign to read about your experience. Maybe think about a vlog? Not sure.
