Mildly terrifying
You need to "bone" it now, so you can animate it.
I've been boning for 30 years kid, and let me tell ya. (said in a raspy smoker voice).
I'm still trying to find out the solution for bringing in a low poly version of a high poly sculpt into maya. It's really easy to get 8 mill poly's in zbrush, and it handles it with no problems. But its a completely different story in maya. You'll want something in the 500,000 range to take it to completion. UV layout, texturing, rigging, animation.
There are like, 3 solutions that i can think of, and each one has a give and take issue with it, like detail loss or topological fuckery or turning my graphics card into a giant ball of fire. Face rigs aren't easy either, i've mostly done stuff with body rigs, so it may be my lack of experience in that certain area. But hey, thats why im doing this, for that sexy sexy knowledge.
I'm mainly working on C4D.
I've seen some really groovy stuff involving cinema 4d, i really like how they handle their f curves. How do you like the application? Got any gripes about it or things you wish where there that arn't? Any animations that you did and you wouldn't mind sharing? I'd love to check out your work if you got anything out there. Thanks!
What's the trick? You know the usual (amateur) result(s). Shading? anatomy (form)? Magic?
Turtles. It's turtles all the way down. Nah, i dont really get the question. But practice is the answer? Check out what other artists are doing, try to do it, repeat until you have gorilla glue in your hair.
Give him a Charlie Manson forehead swastika
Some nice DSLs on that alien.

What sculpting software are you using?
Zbrush, i know next to nothing about it, thus the daily practice. Tablet interface as well, it makes it extremely intuitive. I'm using an wacom Intuos, but it would be easy enough to get by with their cheaper model of bamboo. I dont find the radial selection button helpful, nor, well, any of the buttons. But i like the feel of it, the stylus sensitivity is great, and the work surface is good.
I was hoping that it would be something Linux compatible. The only sculpting options for Linux I have found cost a pretty penny
I feel ya, i think zBrush is 700 usd. that or free, i dunno. Yarrr me matey.
DSL's? Who was your model?
I have yet to use a reference model. Just trying to get to forms correct and occurring naturally, which is obviously the wrong way to go. I have a topological layout that im looking at every now and then, checking the laugh lines and ear proportions, neck mussels and the such. One day i'll get it!
Nice not to shabby
