It's hard to tell from the photo, just looked like a messed up ceiling at first. I know just a little bit about the move away from pleasant looking buildings, there's a word for it too, though it escapes me at the moment. Edit: the word is on the tip of my brain and it's really bugging me but it describes the modern building "aesthetic" of everything looking the same and having extreme and boring angles. Edit2: I think the word I was thinking of was Brutalism or otherwise known as Brutalist Architecture. Everything looks like a bunch of boring boxes. Modern vehicles all look boring as fuck too.
