This seems like a tragedy, but if you own an old office building, the cost of repairing and maintaining decorative plasterwork would dwarf the cost of a dropped grid ceiling over time. Not to mention there is a shortage of the skilled craftsmen that could do it right.

paco and his crew do far better than minimum wage, and yet even white owners still don't like to hire whites because the market is cornered by spics: spanish speaking, unemployment insurance , healthcare etc; so we can't hire you because of socialism, but send in some illegals and we are golden. For the longest they (all of those bitches in washington) made it easier to hire wetbacks, and now so many decent jobs have been designated as work for mexicans for no good reason. There's a bank here, it's maintained as a heritage site and used as a wedding venue. ONLY the main room is maintained. The rest of the building is leaking and falling apart and hasn't seen any love in nearly 60 years. Movie productions that come through will repair rooms like the presidents office to use for a scene, but the rest is empty. The elevator is crashed into the basement. The vaults are all empty, except one that holds beer for the weddings. There are slabs of marble there that must cost millions. The main room of the bank is 4 stories tall, all marble, huge glass dome ceiling. Now they can't even keep the lights up there the same fucking colour.

It was probably falling apart. That drop ceiling not only covered up the cracks, but probably also caught debris as it fell off the aging ceiling. At least they didn't totally rip it out, it is still there for someone in the future if they have the resources and desire to restore it.

that doesnt actually look terrible, but then again i thought the old kowloon walled city had a certain charm.
id say knock down walls to convert groups of apartments into condos, put enough space between units that occupants cant disturb their neighbors, rip out a cluster of units every so often in a regular pattern and convert that space into outdoor areas, and maybe put a park or garden in the middle of those buildings(apparently these giant ass blocks have parking lots on the ground floor) and that could be a perfectly suitable complex for white dwelling, plus itd be relatively easy to erect anti-nigger barriers around it.
imo, tower living has much better potential than american levittowns.
The price likely doesnt matter because people tend to destroy or paint over architectural beauty in more mundane buildings regardless.
