Yes, my great-grandfather was in Russia with the Luftwaffe and became a prisoner of war. About 95% died in Russia, he survived and returned in the 50s. Sadly, I don't know much since it was a taboo in occupied Germany to talk about the war and later my family was broken by divorces.
