Premodernism is the idea that values and principles are objective (transcending mankind, and being a property of the universe rather than of the mind) and originate from God or a leader

Modernism is the idea that values and principles are objective and originate from some universal moral values or normative ethical system that can be uncovered like the facts of the world or the laws of nature

Postmodernism is the idea that values and principles are not objective and originate from sociocultural factors and from the self serving interests of the group which holds them, especially in relation to their power over other groups

Metamodernism is the idea that values and principles are not objective, but that they do not originate from the sources identified by the postmodernists, rather, they originate from a combination of "winning strategies" in evolutionary game theory and hamiltons laws of kinship selection, and from the natural genetic imbalances that exist between groups of people, which generate differences in sociocultural factors as they relate to the populations, which in turn produces sociological and economic imbalances, rather than the deliberate oppression by some outgroup or privilege given by other members of the ingroup

A premodernist would say blacks are unsuccessful because it's God's will or because they lack the connection they have to their great leader. The solution is to convert or conquer them.

A modernist would say that blacks are unsuccessful because they do not observe some great principle that is key to a successful civilization. The solution is to educate or enlighten them.

A postmodernism would say that blacks are unsuccessful because whites are preventing them from succeeding. The solution is to stop this from occurring, and repair the imbalances resulting from past oppression.

A metamodernist would say that blacks are unsuccessful because their populations don't have many individuals with genes that predispose them to behavioral traits that are key to success in a western civilization. The solution is to accept that they will not succeed, give up, and distance oneself from then or to encourage some manner of eugenics to propagate the genes tied to successful conduct among blacks, or to somehow get blacks to accept that for reasons beyond anyone's control, they are fated to be less successful as a group than whites will be, and should appreciate the lesser level if success that they can be expected to achieve.

The postmodernist is like the premodernist in that they still see a purpose-filled world where everything is explained by intentions, but switches out God and king for intergroup power dynamics.

The metamodernist rejects this intentionalism and takes a modernist approach to finding more natural and practical explanations of the current state of affairs, using the rationality science and logic in place of the political conspiracy as the source of their explanations.

Metamodernism rejects the idea that all groups of people are generally the same as one another, whereas postmodernism still clings to this idea, metamodernism proposes the existence of multiple kinds of principles and values, but also establishes a hierarchy where some produce better effects than others given some set of circumstances, unlike postmodernism, which rejects the idea that some principles and values are superior or inferior to others in terms of producing desirable effects.

In essence metamodernism is the next step, it is post-postmodernism, accepting where postmodernism may be correct, but also calling it incorrect on its core assertions, substituting pragmatic and rational explanations for what postmodernism uses to explain things, which is a story of good versus evil, the oppressed versus the privileged.

The metamodernist is challenging the story of inequality with something less dramatic about more disappointingly mundane. Just as the modernist set of rationally derived rules governing society supplanted the more dramatic story of God vs the devil in a battle over human souls, or the king versus his longtime mortal enemy in the kingdom across from theirs.
