I never was able to go to the commonwealth and I am especially too far away to go there now. I had this vision of Northern Appalachia as consisting of rural, well-kept communities, pioneer-style homes covered in snow, and a more "colder on the outside, warmer on the inside" kind of complex soul that does not exist further south. Maybe I am completely off.

Johnson city and Boone NC are just east of Tenn…that’s where I’m talking about. Just a little west into Tenn you still get that terrain.

The scenery is there but the vibe is not. East TN and Western NC are filled with tourists and Tennessee is especially filled with retards.

For a literal "taste", attend the Amish festival in Lancaster County and embrace your inner scrapple lover. Figuratively...

I have a vivid memory of lush, rolling, verdant Pennsylvania hills covered with dairy cattle and deciduous forest whilst shrouded in late morning fog on an early summer day. Made a random turn to the south off of I-80 in the vicinity of Clearwater, PA during a mid/late 1980s road trip, and headed south on some minor state route for 30 or 40 miles. The landscape and lighting was surreal, and the scenery was like something out of vintage landscape jigsaw puzzles. I shot 3 rolls of 36 exposure Kodachrome 64 just on that segment of the trip, and the frigging photo lab lost them. All. Three. Rolls.

The scenery was so surreal, I have often thought I dreamt it all. However Mrs. Duck (then Miss. Duck) was with me, and has similar vivid memories of the region. We attempted to locate the route we took again in the early 2000s, but to no avail sadly...
