It was the craziest thing, when we asked him midflight about the allegation, he ran to the back of the plane, threw open the door and jumped out. No idea why he did something like that to himself.

That's too bad. In the alternative I'm sure he would have harmed himself somehow trying to escape not knowing the door would never open.

You have to be careful on an aircraft. While the device itself can handle say, suddenly dropping 5000 feet because of turbulence or pilot error, unbuckled passengers are not so lucky. That can kill someone.
