I never heard of this. A search shows it was done as a parody of "Toddlers & Tiaras,". For myself that does not excuse it. Likely it was done as deflection.

Degeneracy through "comedy". This wasn't funny. The children should have been rescued and the adults jailed. Do a "where are they now?" on the contestant kids and it would paint a grim picture of sexual abuse, drugs, homosexuality, and suicide.
