Another aspect to consider is the service staff. They see much of what goes on.

I worked briefly as a waiter in a function center as a young man. One of the most outrageous functions I worked was a Bastille Day party for the French Embassy. I can tell you, these people party hard.

I used to attend some fan conventions, and there was always this unwritten "You guys leave the place a mess."

That was sort of true, but for the most part everyone respected the hotel because we wanted to come back next year. One of the conventions I attended, the hotel bid us a fond farewell and thank you. (parent corp abandoned it.)

Business conventions, on the other hand, always leave the hotel a mess. At least we weren't dragging in street hookers and cocaine. Don't even get me started on the military officer ones, they took any excuse to party hardy.
