Basically, society has determined that people's mental state trumps reality. For example, in my mind, that Porsche 911 was mine so I took it. In my mind, that white woman seduced me so I raped her. Now I understand muslim customs: in order to prevent males from raping every woman they see, they force women not to be visible because men can't control themselves.
