Oh I know about the BTK killer getting caught, what 30 years later from DNA. SO yeah it can be traceable...but again. You still have to find the parts.
Personally, I'm more of a follow the law person, so not something I ever plan on doing. Just saying, it's a big ol' country. They were in Texas. Plenty of hungry coyotes and what not out in the sticks that would have made that evidence disappear if they disperse it far and wide.
It's not like meat would sit around long in the hot sun out in the backwoods without attracting some critters.
EDIT: That is if it's in small enough chunks to disappear quickly.
