If this existence is nothing more than a cosmic accident without design or purpose, ultimately none of the horrific things you mentioned are "wrong". Without God these tragedies are no more than matter bumping into matter. I think the fact that we all innately know that there is clearly good and evil points to a designer that authored a moral code and instilled it in us. And knowing evil monsters will face judgement after this life gives me peace.
