I agree. What I said was that you can't tell a teenager to work to buy something for themselves and then turn around and act like you have a right to take it easy from them. If you are going to make them do adult things with responsibility you don't get to take them away punishing them as if they were a child.

As long as they are 18 and living on their own they can do whatever they want with their own phone.

If they are 17 and living under my roof supported by me and expecting me to provide a phone.

Want vs need.

You need food, clothing and shelter. But you want a phone.

One will be provided the other will not.

It was suggested that they work to buy their own phone. If your teenagers work and buy something you can't use that as a parenting tool.

They'll also have more appreciation for it since they worked for it and used their own money to buy it.
