Large cities in China have a trash sorting/recycling program based on a four-category system: wet waste (food), dry waste (residual), hazardous, and recyclable. Implemented with strict regulations and penalties, the system relies on source separation at the household level, often with community-level inspection and sorting. In addition to mandatory sorting, the city uses technology like app-based sorting guides, a network of recycling machines for residents to deposit materials for payment, and valet services to help residents with disposal.

They took the idea from HK.
