Stevie Ray Vaughan wrote this piece entitled
“Life without you.” shortly after the passing of his beloved close friend, and guitar technician
Charley Wirz had passed away in 1985.
Most notably associated with Vaughan for the Lipstick Stratocaster gifted to Stevie, who then dubbed it “The Charley Stratocaster” in 1983. The song is a tribute for Charley, and Stevie can be seen getting very emotional in live recorded performances of the song. The guitar has been used in professional recordings and is most well known for being used to record “Couldn’t stand the weather”, “Life without you.” and “Tin Pan Alley”.
Life without you, all the love you passed my way
The angels have waited for you so long, now they have their way
Take your place
