He had stopped writing satirical songs because the ideas no longer came easily to him. Lehrer's last public performance was in 1972, when he appeared at a campaign rally for the Democratic presidential candidate George McGovern.
Still enjoy his music, though.
He was a college professor, that goes hand in hand with the left. But I also look at that historically and think that what we call the left today and what we called the left then are two radically different things.
