Three or four years ago I might have bought this narrative.
Today what it looks like is someone running a splinter-faction of the regime, making an actual, semi competent attempt to save the regime.
Promises are never more than just that of course, let alone political promises. So no, supposing, snowballs chance in hell, they succeeded
(and the fact they haven't been gone after says some element in the regime approves), we would not see RAGE (retire all government employees), or the complete seizure of university endowments. The political math doesn't add up.
The demographics of the movement are right though.
The truth is, that the second take, that it can't be fixed, and will collapse, after an agonizing long period, is the correct one.
This is not rome, contrary to the popular refrain.
This is the nationalists before mao and the KMT-CCP civil war.
This is the break up of the soviet union.
For structural reasons we will skip or fast-forward the american 'caeser' phase.
A caeser assumes the regime is self aware enough to stop the bleeding.
It accounts nothing for the fact that the regime is not the empire, rather its the blood sucking leech attached to the brainstem of the empire.
It wants the bleeding, because no one in the room is serious, and everyone benefits in the short term.
Worse, the attempt to install a dictator, will not see a renewal of civil faith, but instead, because u.s. culture is out of shape, the shock of the industrial change over to isolationism will 1. bankrupt the war machine, 2. lead to color revolutions here in order for intelligence agencies to stay relevant and assure their own pensions, 3. come at a time when the fruit of socialism-and-totalitarianism-in-all-but-name is just ripening (mass social pain, collapse), thereby assuring the nationalist movement is scapegoated as a boogieman.
Reactionary movements fail and in the end become boogiemen, because reacting to a problem created by your enemies, is on average, worse then letting them make their own bed.
Least of all ones manned by compromised cia agents "retired", BDSM leftwing informants spying on their husbands and candidates, billionaires that are one threat or blackmail or assassination attempt from becoming the weakest link, bernie-bros, and a managerie of other near-do-wells and would-be types.
America can survive and come back from balkanization, collapse, and civil war. It can.
On the otherhand it absolutely can't survive if the ones driving the bus are of the same technocratic-progressive pedigree, and are allowed to drive everyone off the cliff at the same time. Thats what happened in Germany. Single-solutions are also single points of failure. Achilles had the same problem. Look how that turned out.
Nationalism is a suicide pact on a one way bus heading for rusty guard rails.
Civil war, collapse, and balkanization is playing chicken.
At least one side survives.
Preserving the entire edifice is the same as cutting off too little flesh from a gangrene limb to "preserve as much of the limb as possible."
Rather than recognizing the infection for what it is, and removing the whole limb and being done with it.
It's gambling with people's lives, when we don't even have to--all in order to avoid pain that was always going to be necessary .
