Trust me, we're not rare. You can find the AA big book for free online, and there are large sections that go into great depth explaining the difference between alcoholics and non-alcoholics.
Like OK was saying - It's a kind of insanity. I've worked whole 10 hour shifts while going through alcohol withdrawal, only to repeat the same process again while telling myself I wasn't going to. If you don't get it, good for you. The majority of people who drink won't ever have to understand.
I'd just ask you to be more gracious than to fling shit at people going through something you don't understand.
