If you fall off, just get back on and try to beat your high score.

..that's the spirit....I took a month break a few months back, I have been drinking double since then to catch up for the lost time.

If you've been drinking heavily for years: If you didn't step down, you'd better have seen a doctor. It's not a joke. It can kill you. Read up on it. Increased chance of stroke is one. If you've stepped down: I wish you the absolute best of luck. You'll loose weight, sleep better, have more energy, etc. Take care of yourself, brother.

This one right here. If you drink very regularly or get drunk on the regular you cannot go to zero all at once. It can kill you. No joke, it is more likely to kill you than going cold turkey on almost every major drug.

Watch out for "the shakes" or "tremors" you will also probably not sleep well and will have excessive sweating and fatigue.

A "step down" or taper is hard but it can limit these issues.

However, the more you taper/back off and keep to it. The better you will feel. Its ok for it to take time. You don't have to do it in one day.

As they say, every journey starts with a single step.

I'm on day 2 brother, hoping to last as long as possible after that last foolish bender

Stay strong, man. Life gets pretty amazing if you can stay sober. It's like taking off a backpack full of weights you never thought you were carrying.

I made it pretty long time then idk....for seemingly no reason at all I said fuck everything and went hard. Still picking up the pieces a couple days later. I got self destructive problems.

That's a very familiar story.

Most people don't want to hear this, but you should really check out the AA Big Book (aa.org). Maybe start with Chapter 3 (aa.org).

If you identify with what they're talking about, you should consider finding a meeting near you. I've been doing it for just shy of a year now, and it's one of the best decisions I've ever made.

God hates a quitter.

Success starts in the mind. You've already resigned yourself to the fact that it's not gonna work. I was like that for smoking for 10 years (quitting years) I'll try again, see if I can do it this time. Let's see how long I can make it this attempt. I always went back because I wanted to smoke, not quit smoking.

One day I finally had enough, I knew I was done smoking and I tossed the pack out and never touched another cigarette. That was 11 years ago. There was no question that last time, no wondering if I could do it. It was very strange but that day I just knew I would not smoke ever again.

Everyone quitting on me. Good luck man. You planning to quit quit?

[–] 1 pt

Nah, just planning to plan

Best not to think about it like "Quitting forever" even if you are. That tired old line "One day at a time" is more about not getting demoralized than anything. Thinking about Forever seems daunting. Thinking about today is workable.

How long did it last? Still going?
