What blows me away is how many people spend years in the program without ever going through the steps. Makes me want to say "Do you really belong here? You know, there are regular social clubs. . . ."
Tbf I didn't go through the steps myself. Never really had the most serious problem with alcohol. Was court ordered for a year cause for some reason the judge felt like giving me a year of drug court even though I wasn't into drugs other than pot. Wasn't a DUI/dwi either. Just fucked up and hung with the wrong crowd. I did learn a lot there though but at the end of it they did tell me I should have never been in the program to begin with. Judge just really wanted me to see the other side for what it is.
Edit: have almost 2 years off booze now and 3 months off pot.
Well right on man, congrats.
There's a lot of good knowledge to be gained from the program for anyone, but it's a pretty different situation for actual alcoholics.
Oh very much so. I did my best to take what I could from the experience. Who knows, if not for the program I'd probably have ended up an alcoholic or druggie.
