You're not going to need to worry about tires if there's no fuel. If the SHTF, you think oil refineries will just keep on truckin', and tankers will deliver to your local servo (that will still have power to run the pumps).
SHTF, you'll want an old carbureted petrol vehicle that can be converted to run on syngas. That would be used very sparingly because the dirty syngas that you'll get from your home made pyrolizer will not be good for engine longevity and cutting and drying wood will be a time consuming and energy intensive activity. Wood will be valuable for heating and cooking. If you live in a city or large town... you're fucked.
