You know there used to be a way around paying at all. Simply pick up the phone and use the hang up flapper to dial the number. Example: say the number you are trying to reach was 555-567-2345. You would press the flapper 5 times, pause, 5 more times, pause and so on until the whole number was "dialed". I saved a shitload of money in my youth doing this.
