Fucking everything is a Subscription now. Got to get the MRR. I am so sick and tired of it that I have canceled damn near everything and only will sign up for short periods of time when there is something I actually want access to. I am done with this creeping "you will own nothing" culture.

From the post:

>We’re finally reckoning with our expensive subscription habits. For two straight quarters, cancellations have outpaced new subscriptions for digital memberships, food-of-the-month clubs and a host of other purchases, according to personal finance app Rocket Money. Streaming services have been particularly impacted, with cancellations for Netflix, Hulu and HBO Max and others up 49% in 2022 from the previous year, according to subscriber-measurement firm Antenna.

When I canceled my WSJ/Barron's sub it took 45 minutes. You could not do it online, they forced you to call them. I did take a bit of pleasure expressing how I expected them to report real new instead of the same MSM nonsense I could get for free.

Yes, I can imagine you're probably not the only one who has done that.

Maybe that's why I was on hold for so long!

The irony here is off the charts...

It's like a warehouse of anvils falling on my head.

Article is 1.5 years old, but the sentiment remains the same. I’d be interested in seeing how it’s progressed from there.

Yeah, I should have included that in the post. Either way, more and more crap is becoming subscription only and I am just finding self hosted or OSS alternatives. They are trying to make everything in life a subscription and I will not be a part of it.

The future is stupid.

I have a password manager. A vault to store the preponderance of passwords. They want me to move to their subscription model….fuck them and fuck the rest of those lazy, greedy assholes.
