I always make sure to keep the gun at least two inches away from the bead when I'm doing MIG, to let the shielding gas escape more betterer.

Interesting design, I don't know that I've seen one like that here - it was usually just flip up/down when needed, like a magnifying headset. Of course, now, they're all insta-dim windows.
