When Whites first landed in South Africa at the Cape in 1652, there were no blacks present. Bantus, who are native to West Africa had migrated southwards, genociding smaller tribes as they went along, and by the time they arrived in the south of the continent the Whites (Boers & British) were already at the Cape.

It wasn't until the 1770s that Whites encountered Bantus about 800km east of Cape Town.
