An N95 mask stops 95% of particles 0.3 microns or larger. 0.3 microns is the same as 300 nanometers, the unit of scale typically used to measure viruses. Polio is tiny, at about 28 nanometers. COVID-19, however, is one of the larger ones, being between 120 and 140 nanometers. Two COVID-19 viruses could pass side-by-side through an N95 mask opening with probably enough room to bring their polio buddy along for kicks.
