Instead, they only aspire to signal that they believe what the Party believes (whatever that is). So, when someone who appears to be representing progressive ideas and is an authority figure (a reporter is an authority figure to the progressives, because they believe the media) suggests something, no matter how ludicrous it may be, they will immediately embrace it. They may embrace its exact opposite mere moments later, but that doesn't concern them because they do not hold any actual beliefs anyway, they just want to fit in with the cult. This is what makes them so easily trolled. This is also how they went from considering Kamala to be the biggest liability in the presidential campaign and a total waste of space to being the most amazing candidate in all history ever, literally overnight.
They get particularly butt hurt when they discover that they have been trolled, as this exposes that they fell for an obvious trick and that they have no real beliefs.
