The incidence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) or its precursor (MCI) was measured. The result was highly significant & worrying: AD was 22% more common, MCI more than twice as common. Also worrying: measurements were only taken for 3 months (!!), the long-term data will be significantly worse. It is still unclear which mechanisms are responsible and to what extent - the list of potential candidates is now long: - Amyloid formation - prion formation - neuroinflammation - Microcirculatory disorders - Hippocampal damage ... or a mixture of all these mechanisms
German: Gemessen wurde das Neuaftreten von Alzheimer (AD) bzw. dessen Vorstufe (MCI). Ergebnis war hochsignifikant & beunruhigend: AD 22% häufiger, MCI mehr als doppelt so häufig. Bedenklich zudem: Gemessen wurde nur für 3 Monate (!!), die Langzeitdaten werden deutlich schlechter ausfallen. Unklar ist noch, welche Mechanismen in welchem Maß verantwortlich sind - die Liste der potentiellen Kandidaten ist mittlerweile lang: - Amyloidbildung - Prionenbildung - Neuroinflammation - Mikrozirkulationsstörungen - Hippocampusschädigung ... oder eine Mischung aus all diesen Mechanismen
